saw PK twice.. ya today the second time.. you may think that it was obvious that I would watch it more than once.. but the truth is that I watched just so that I could write this, as you all know that I love Aamir Khan and hence my approach towards him would be biased.. it's true that I have always supported Aamir for every movie that he has done., now rises the question why am I writing only about PK..? cause many of the people (without seeing the movie) have had harsh opinions and taken it in the wrong way.. I am not planning on giving away the story of the movie.. but the very basic intend of it, to begin with.. have you ever wondered or did you question your parents while filling up any form in school or college.. that what was the use of caste.. religion that is put up, and what does it mean to you.. n why should you write that religion only? may be as a kid you just followed the norm of filling the form that was told to you, all your classmates, whichever religion they belonged to became your friends.. cause it didn't matter (which suddenly matters in your adulthood.. don't know why though) why wasn't mythology a subject in our syllabus?? cause it always has been personal choice and not mandatory aspect.. how does it biologically differentiate us? it doesn't.. you jus have different rituals.. but if you thought of it on a bigger scale, you'll know that a birth is celebrated.. a death is grieved.. marriage demands commitment.. these are mere examples..
coming back to PK.. his questions are innocent, and logical.. when I saw him praying to each god.. for his desires to be fulfilled, I saw myself.. saw my struggle.. how helpless I was.. how easily I was okay to do whatever it took, to save my mom.. I read bible to her in the hospital.. did 16 Tuesday and Friday for her to get well soon.. ya.. I who knew what medicines she was taking.. what the disease was doing to her.... but I was doin.. for the faith.. the hope.... we do this cause when we are helpless and aren't aware of what has to be done.. we blindly follow, no questions asked.. no reasoning required.. PK tells you to question.. makes you make sense.. a fact that every Aamir movie has made me a better person.. if you are capable of being one!
Now let me talk a bit about how Rajkumar Hirani has always tried to portray to be aware of this whole religious superficial stuff.. well, we all have seen Lage raho Munna Bhai.. you remember very well how the baba who said a girl having mangal shouldn't marry Sunny (Abhishek Bacchan's name in the movie) and yet in the last scene we all saw how Sunny survived!!
then we saw 3idiots, doesn't Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi's name in the movie) remove all his finger rings before going to the interview.. so this is DEFINITELY not the first time that Rajkumar Hirani has made you aware of how in the name of god you are bein looted..
I do have a lot to write.. a lot of outrage in my mind too.. things like hindutva n all.. btw none of the religion teaches to practice violence.. none!! yet the outrage?? people that boast their religion, can I ask.. what actually have you done for it? besides perform the age old ritual that you blindly follow and ya, that too at your convenience.. sad but true. We update ourselves to the new technologies yet remain blinded to a few logical facts.. to my understanding about my own religion which is Hindu btw.. seems very astonishing that I a Hindu in Maharashtra would follow Ganpati more.. while Hindu's in Uttar Pradesh would pray Shri Ram or Shri Krishna.. while Hindu's in Bengal would pray to Durga Maa.. in Tamil Nadu, they would pray to Shri Balaji.. although all these gods just want you to be a better person eventually.. still so many Gods.. n so many different stories about them..
when I think of what exactly would happen if people decided to only vouch for their religion when it came to their profession, like a doctor said I will only treat patients of my religion.. or a teacher decided to teach only students of his religion.. we all agree that, this would be against humanity isnt it?? so why not always be a human first..
